Clinical Evaluation of Catgut Embedding in Acupoint Combined with Moxibustion in Treatment of Simple Obesity
Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of catgut embedding in acupoint combined with moxibustion therapy in treating simple obesity of the spleen deficiency and dampness obstruction syndrome, including improvements in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)syndrome,as well as its effects on obesity indicators and blood lipid levels. Methods From November 2022 to October 2023,135 patients with simple obesity of the spleen deficiency and dampness obstruction syndrome, who were treated at an outpatient clinic, were randomly divided into three groups using a random number table,i.e.,the Embedding group, the Moxibustion group, and the Combined group, with 45 patients in each group. All groups targeted the same acupoints, with primary acupoints being Zhongwan(CV 12),Daimai(GB 26),and Zusanli(ST 36),and supplementary acupoints including Tianshu(ST 25),Guanyuan(CV 4),Qihai(CV 6),Neiguan(PC 6),Fenglong(ST 40),Sanyinjiao(SP 6),Pishu(BL 20),and Weishu(BL 21).Each treatment course lasted 4 weeks, and the effects were observed after three courses.Obesity indicators(body weight, body mass index, body fat ratio, waist circumference, and waist-hip ratio),TCM syndrome scores, and blood lipid levels(total cholesterol and triglyceride[TG])were measured before and after treatment, and clinical efficacy was evaluated. Results After treatment, the obesity indicators,TCM syndrome scores, and blood lipid levels in all three groups showed significant reductions compared to those before treatment(P<0.05,P<0.01).The reductions were more significant in the Combined group than the Embedding and Moxibustion groups(P<0.01).The total effective rate in the Combined group was 91.11%(41/45),which was higher than that of the Embedding group at 86.67%(39/45,P<0.05)and the Moxibustion group at 68.89%(31/45,P<0.05).Conclusion Catgut embedding in acupoint combined with moxibustion can effectively improve obesity indicators,TCM syndrome, and blood lipid levels, with superior efficacy to monotherapy.
