Numerical study on angular position of diffuser on hydraulic loss in volute of centrifugal pump
In order to investigate the influence of guide vane placement on the hydraulic loss of the volute casing,a numerical analysis was conducted to study the hydrodynamic characteristics of the centrifugal pump under different guide vane placements, which was further verified through experimental tests.Firstly, five sets of different guide vane placements were selected, and external characteristic tests were carried out to validate the accuracy of the numerical simulation results.Secondly, based on the numerical simulation results, the impact of guide vane placement on the total pressure drop variation across the flow parts was analyzed and studied. Then,by unfolding the rotating surface, the changes in flow conditions at the volute casing inlet under different guide vane placements were investigated, and the influence of guide vane placement on the incoming flow to the volute casing was analyzed. Finally, the overall pressure variation in the volute casing from the inlet to the outlet was analyzed, and the influence of guide vane placement on the hydraulic loss of the volute casing was studied in combination with the flow field distribution analysis. The research results show that the maximum differences in head and efficiency of the centrifugal pump under different guide vane placements are approximately 4.8%and3.5%,respectively.Due to the significant influence of vortex at the outlet section of the volute casing, the hydraulic loss of the volute casing varies significantly compared to other components. When the guide vanes are placed at the θd4 position, the influence of the vortex at the outlet section is minimized, and the hydraulic loss of the volute casing decreases significantly. When the tongue is positioned between the guide vane blades, the incoming flow for volute becomes uniform and the hydraulic loss decreases significantly.
