Individuality,Theme,and Performativity:The Study of Yan Jidao's Lyrics by Stephen Owen
Stephen Owen's study of Yan Jidao's lyrics is broadly divided into three categories:the study of Yan Jidao's personality,which builds Yan Jidao's image as a lyricist with the character of Yan Jidao shown in the real life and that revealed in the world of the art of lyrics;the study of Yan Jidao's lyrics with memories as the theme,which deconstructs the memory theme of Yan Jidao's lyrics through idealization of the characters,poeticization of the scenes,and categorization of the memories;and the study of the performativity of Yan Jidao's lyrics,which takes a dynamic look at the performativity of the text and the emotional authenticity of the songstresses in their singing.On the whole,Stephen Owen,by combining the relevant concepts of narratology and film and drama,gives Yan Jidao's lyrics a new interpretation perspective,which has great reference value to the study of Yan Jidao in China and also provides us with new research concepts and methods.
