A Study of Metaphors in Dickinson's Poetry from Cognitive Perspective:Taking The Spider holds a Silver Ball as an Example
Cognitive linguistics believes that metaphor,being not a mere language phenomenon,carries people's cognitive process.Accordingly,two well-known theories of conceptual metaphor and conceptual integration were developed from it to explain the cognitive mechanism in metaphor.Based on these two theories,this study is fo-cused on the true meaning of conceptual metaphor in Emily Dickinson's poetry and the cognitive construction process reflected in them,and has figured out the mapping relationship between the metaphouical content and true meaning to give a deeper insight into the cognitive operation mechanism in poetry.
