Research on the Impact of Industrial Structure Upgrading on China's Carbon Emissions:Mechanism and Test
Studying the relationship between industrial structure upgrading and carbon emission and their inter-acting patterns is of great practical significance for the coordinated development of environment and economy in China. So the current study selected the panel data of 30 provincial administrative regions from 2003 to 2022 and empirically analyzed the relationship between industrial structure upgrading and carbon emissions by using a two-way fixed effect model. The results show that:(1)Industrial structure upgrading can effectively reduce carbon emissions;(2)Due to the different levels of economic development in different regions, the effect of industrial structure upgrading on carbon emissions is different, with the strongest one in the eastern regions of the country, followed by the one in the central regions, and the least in the western regions;(3)The intermediary effect model reveals that technological innovation and improvement of labor quality are effective way to upgrade industrial structure and reduce carbon emissions.
