Objective To explore the mediating effect of self-compassion between illness perception and demoralization in cervical cancer patients. Methods The convenience sampling method was used to select a total of 306 cervical cancer pa-tients treated in the department of gynecology in two tertiary A hospitals in Taiyuan,Shanxi Province, from October 2022 to December 2023 as study subjects. The general information questionnaire,Demoralization Scale-Ⅱ,Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire, and Self-Compassion Scale were used for investigation. Results The mean scores of illness perception,de-moralization,and self-compassion of patients with cervical cancer were(37.58±8.69),15.00(11.00,18.00)and(78.33±9.89),respectively.Illness perception was positively correlated with demoralization(r=0.298,P<0.01),and was negatively corre-lated with self-compassion(r=-0.291,P<0.01).Self-compassion was negatively correlated with demoralization(r=-0.482,P<0.0l).Self-compassion was a mediating variable between illness perception and demoralization, with its media-ting effect accounting for 56.50%of the total effect. Conclusions Medical staff should take effective measures to reduce the level of patients'negative illness perception, enhance self-compassion,and improve demoralization.
