Growth Experience of Junior Nurses in Cardiology Department Experiencing Sudden Cardiac Death Events During Night Shifts:A Qualitative Study
Objective To explore the growth experience of junior nurses in Cardiology Department who encountered sudden cardiac death(SCD)events during night shifts,aiming to provide a reference for future support strategies.Methods Using the phenomenological research method in the qualitative study,12 junior nurses who experienced SCD in 3 tertiary A general hospitals in Nanjing from January to April 2024 were selected by the objective sampling method.Semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted,and the data were analyzed by Colaizzi 7-step analysis method.Results Four key themes were identified namely,event impact and reflective review,psychological adjustment and coping strategies,professional growth and skill enhancement,and cognitive transformation and career planning reshaping.Conclusions Medical institutions and nursing managers should recognize the growth experience of junior nurses in Cardiology Department who encountered SCD events during night shifts and provide supportive interventions and guidance.
