Construction of a Well-being Model for English Learners:A Qualitative Investigation Based on the English Learning Experiences of Chinese Students
Guided by the Complex Dynamic Systems Theory this study employs MAXQDA 12 software to conduct three-level coding of qualitative data from 40 Chinese English learners, extracting elements of well-being in their foreign language learning narratives and incorporating interview data for assessing theoretical saturation.A well-being model for English learners grounded in the Chinese context is preliminarily constructed. This model comprises psychological and sociocultural dimensions, with the former consisting of emotional and cognitive subsystems, and the latter involving social and cultural subsystems. It reflects the dynamic,non-linear,and self-organizing nature of well-being among foreign language learners. This model enriches and systematically integrates existing well-being models and provides a fundamental theoretical framework for empirical research on the quantification of well-being among foreign language learners. It also holds significance for educational policymakers and foreign language teachers in setting teaching objectives.
