Controversies and Future Directions of Bilingual Advantage
Whether bilingual experience enhances cognitive control remains a hot debated topic.Since the mid-20th century,many studies have reported bilingual advantage over monolinguals in cognitive control.However,recent studies propose that the bilingual advantage needs further exploration under the context of multilingual population.The current review,based on previous behavioral and neural studies,discusses the controversies in the field and proposes some suggestions for future research from the perspectives of theoretical hypothesis,bilingual experience diversity,individual differences,and experimental design.
