Anuradha Roy is one of the most prominent female writers in contemporary Indian literature. Her three full-length novels in English depict the destruction of India's ecological and cultural fabric by British colonisation and industrialisation in the process of modernisation and the gender order constructed by patriarchal society. From the perspective of eco-feminist thought, the author critiques the patriarchal capitalist model of development while portraying women who return to the city.At the same time, she calls on the Indian society to think dialectically about how to achieve a unique Indian modernisation in the context of globalisation.
