Based on the Systemic Functional ontogenesis, this study examines the multimodal modification of refusal force by Chinese children under the multimodal modification authentic model with natural interaction videos as research data. The findings reveal that children employ flexible multimodal discursive-pragmatic strategies and show differentiated modal preferences. When they enhance direct refusals or reduce indirect refusals, mono verbal language is prioritized. However, when children reduce direct refusals or enhance indirect refusals,a tendency is observed to balance mono verbal language with multimodal resources.Regarding multimodal discourse strategies in direct refusals, children integrate various forms of verbal language, paralanguage, and gestures. In terms of multimodal pragmatic strategies in indirect refusals, children,by producing extended discourse, create the space for the utilization of multimodal explanations, apologies, and alternative offers to execute refusals and modify the force thereafter. This study helps to deepen the understanding of the representational characteristics of children's multimodal refusals and promotes the longitudinal development of children's multimodal discourse analysis.
