Oral Preposition Errors by Chinese Learners of English
This study investigates prepositional errors in the oral English of Chinese learners at different learning stages drawing on the Language Exposure Hypothesis. The findings indicate that learners generally demonstrate low proficiency in preposition usage but show certain developmental trends.Substitution errors are the predominant type of error across stages, with significant differences in the frequency of other error types. While there are no significant differences in the overall prepositional error rate types and total of systematic errors across stages,higher-level learners exhibit new systematic error-prone prepositions Preposition errors are mostly developmental, with the proportion of developmental errors decreasing as proficiency increases, and transfer errors increasing, indicating progress in oral preposition usage.insufficient exposure to prepositions is the key factor in low proficiency, while improved proficiency is linked to increased exposure.
