Since the publication of Zizhi Tongjian in the Song Dynasty,it has derived many related works in later generations,mostly by the means of imitation or continuances,inheriting or changing,textual research or annotated research,resulting in a consecutive study of"Tongjian"running through the Song Dynasty.As early as the 16th century,the relevant"Tongjian"works were used as citation documents in Chinese historical works compiled by westerners,which acquainted Europeans with Chinese history.The English translation of Zizhi Tongjian initiated by China's official organization in the 1930s and 1940s,represents the debut of Chinese Culture Overseas.This study combs the history of the translation and introduction of"Tongjian"in the west,taking the micro-translation history as the research path,and focuses on the English translation of Zizhi Tongjian.Then,it tries to explore the historical context and historical repercussions of these translation activities,so as to provide reference for the following sinology and translation studies of"Tongjian".The study also tries to appeal attention to Chinese historical classics overseas under the current set of Chinese Culture Overseas.
