As an art form that integrates music and poetry,"song poem"features the comprehensive artistic effect created through the interaction of lyrics,music and performance.In its long history of development,"song poem"affects and shapes people at all levels of society.As representative works of modern"song poem",American poet Bob Dylan's songs contain three elements-lyrics,music and performance,whose interactions convey rich meanings:on the one hand,music and performance enhance the expression of lyrics,which creates an appealing atmosphere among the American public,reflecting the characteristics of popular culture and promoting the political reform and social movements in the United States in the 1960-1970s.On the other hand,Dylan's music and performance suggest a different connotation from the lyrics,which constructs the inherent paradox of the work,adding thinking depth to popular songs with a reflection on its attribute as"cultural commodity".Through analyzing his masterly practice of poetry-music interaction,this paper illuminates that Bob Dylan inherits and reshapes the tradition of"song poem",reconstructing the relationship between"song poem"and the public with a"popular poetics"which embodies the nature of popular culture and the artistic quality of poetry.
