Deliberate Metaphor Theory:A Debate between the Proponents and the Opponents
Deliberate metaphor theory emphasizes the communicative function of metaphor and studies the deliberate use of metaphor in discourse.It is a new branch of cognitive linguistics.The theory is controversial and has been criticized.This research,on basis of a debate between its proponents and opponents,zooms in on the questions from the cons and the solutions offered by the pros to elaborate how deliberate metaphor prevails over dissenting views step by step and stretches out into the realm of cognitive metaphor research since it has been put forward,striving to find the merits of DMT and to point out some problems existing,so as to pave the way for future research.In addition,this study clarifies its own stance towards this debate from an interdisciplinary and disciplinary-development perspective,in order to provide some new insights for further scientific research.
