Terminological Translation in State Translation Program and Research Papers by Scholars:A Case Study of"Zongti Guojia Anquan Guan"
The Chinese political terminology"Zongti Guojia Anquan Guan"has been translated in both State Translation Program and in research papers by scholars, both of which have translated it into different English versions. As state translators/departments and scholars have followed different philosophies of translation, there are obvious discrepancies between their most frequently used English translations.Under-standardization of the translations, resulted from a lack of necessary state authority and terminological features, together with a lack of communication between state and scholar translators, has led to the poor reception of all the English versions among international audiences and the seemingly not-so-good performance in competition with the translation used by an American thinktank.Ignorance of terminological requirements in such translation may even lend pretexts for some Western scholar's illegitimate attacks on China.State translators/departments are expected to implement more rigorous measures,in close cooperation with scholars,to have better and more standardized English translations of Chinese political terminologies.
