The Impact of Ideal L2 Self on Willingness to Communicate:The Serial Mediating Effect of L2 Grit and L2 Self-confidence
Willingness to communicate(WTC)is an important prerequisite for language communication. It is characterized by individual differences and correlated with factors such as self-confidence,motivation,and personality traits.Previous studies have shown that ideal L2 self has a positive influence on L2 WTC,but the underlying cognitive mechanisms of their relationship remain unclear. Therefore, based on the heuristic pyramid-shaped model of L2 WTC,the current study intends to introduce L2 grit and self-confidence to investigate the cognitive mechanisms and pathways. The results find that:1)Ideal L2 self can positively predict L2 WTC;2)L2 grit and self-confidence both play a partial mediating role in the above relationship;3)Ideal L2 self had a positive effect on L2 WTC through L2 grit and self-confidence.The present study is conducive to broadening the research on L2 WTC.It will also provide empirical support and implications for the relevant studies and foreign language education.
