Dynamic Response of RC Bridge Piers under Near-Ground Lateral Impact Loading
In order to study the dynamic response of reinforced concrete(RC)piers under the action of near-ground lateral impact, three RC piers with circular cross-section were tested by using the horizontal impact facility. The impact velocity was used as the research variable to obtain the impact force time histories,displacement-time histories, deformation curves, and final damage patterns of the bridge pier. The test results showed that the pier exhibited three damage patterns of minor damage, moderate damage, and severe damage under three impact velocities of 1.70 m/s,2.68 m/s,and 3.32 m/s.Brittle local shear damage was observed between the impact point and the pier bottom, and the impact velocity was found to have a significant effect on the dynamic response and damage mechanism of the pier under impact loading. This test can provide valuable data for the finite element numerical simulation of vehicle-bridge pier collision.
