Experimental Study on Softening of Sandstone Gravel in the Drainage System of Collapsible Loess Areas When Encountering Water
In order to study the softening characteristics of sandstone in the gravel drainage system of the mountain bulldozing and land creation project in Yan'an wet sinking loess area and its influence on the construction stability, the uniaxial compression test and disc splitting test were carried out on the sandstone samples taken from the site using WDW-600 microcomputer-controlled electronic universal machine to determine the strength and softening characteristics of sandstone with different water contents in the dried state, natural state and saturated state. The results showed that the sandstones in this area softened significantly when exposed to water, and the compressive strength of the rocks softened slightly, with the average compressive strength of 14.54 MPa,10.58 MPa and 7.70 MPa for the dried, natural and saturated samples, respectively, and the softening coefficient of 0.53;the average tensile strength of 1.43 MPa,1.30 MPa and 0.83 MPa for the dried, natural and saturated samples, respectively. The test enhanced the understanding of the mechanical properties of water softening of sandstone in Yan'an wet-submerged loess area, which is a reference for the calculation of bearing performance and stability analysis of drainage system after water softening of rocks.
