Research on IEF for alleviating salt accumulation in forward osmosis membrane bioreactors
In order to alleviate the salt accumulation in forward osmotic membrane bioreactor(OMBR),the IEF-OMBR system was developed and constructed by adding ion exchange fiber(IEF)as adsorbent to alleviate the salt accumulation in the bioreactor, and the water flux, water quality, activated sludge characteristics, and membrane pollution were studied. The results indicate that when the IEF dosage was 10 g/L and the system operated for 20 days, the conductivity of the IEF-OMBR system rose to 7.13 mS/cm,while the conductivity of the conventional OMBR system increased to 13.48 mS/cm,with a 53%difference in the rate of conductivity increase between the two.The water flux of the conventional OMBR system was 2.91 L/(m2·h),and the water flux of the IEF-OMBR system was 6.01 L/(m2·h),106.5%increase in water flux with IEF.Compared to the conventional OMBR system, the IEF-OMBR system exhibited a significant reduction in fouling of the forward osmosis membrane and a certain improvement in effluent water quality.
