Identification of World Famous Teak and Its Counterfeit
As a precious wood with beautiful color and good dimensional stability,teak enjoys the reputation of"the king of all kinds of wood"and resultant forgeries in the timber market.In order to protect the rights and interests of con-sumers and ensure orderly market,the macro and micro structure of 6 species of non-teak wood in aspects of Tectona grandis,Guibourtia ehie,Pericopsis elate,Chlorophora excels,Testulea gabonensis,Robinia sp.and Couratari sp.were identified by comparison with teak wood.The conclusion showed that the so-called"African Teak","King Teak","Gold-en Teak","King Kong Teak","South American Teak","Brazilian Teak","Mexican Red Teak","Iron Teak"and"Borneo Teak"are not teak but counterfeit,and their actual wood species names are given in the paper.
