Research on the Design Characteristics and Causes of the Tianjin-style Table and Desk Furniture during the Republic of China
The furniture of the Republic of China has distinct temporal and regional characteristics.Looking at Tianjin in modem history,as an old industrial city and the earliest coastal city to open to foreign trade,Tianjin embodies rich cultur-al heritage,forming a unique furniture style that is comfortable,practical,and inclusive.Table and desk furniture are products inherited from the etiquette culture of China,and it is an essential type of furniture for etiquette receptions.This paper used methods such as literature research and field investigation to study the causes of Tianjin-style table and desk furniture,and combined case analysis to explore the characteristics of the typical Tianjin-style table and deskfurniture in terms of design,function,structure,decoration,and other aspects.The causes of Tianjin-style table and desk furniture,such as the innovation of the social environment,changes in architectural space,the continuation of traditional cultural heritage,and the impact of foreign cultures were explored.The typical features of Tianjin-style table and desk furniture were summarized,including simple geometric shapes,maximized storage space,easy portability due to modular struc-tures,and the use of novel and diverse materials.Through this,we can appreciate the unique cultural and artistic heritage of the Tianjin region,promoting the preservation and inheritance of Tianjin folk furniture.
