The Impact of Global Value Chain Embedding on Enterprise Digital Transformation
In the era of digital globalization,enterprises are no longer isolated information islands,and their digital transformation is closely related to upstream and downstream enterprises in the value chain.An ex-amination from the perspective of the global value chain reveals that the promotion mechanism of enterprise dig-ital transformation is based on the characteristics of value co-creation and global resource allocation in the glob-al value chain.Global value chain embedding can promote enterprise digital transformation through digital technology spillovers and optimized digital resource allocation.Empirical analysis using data from Chinese lis-ted companies and customs data from 2005 to 2016 shows that global value chain embedding significantly pro-motes enterprise digital transformation.The mechanism analysis indicates that digital technology spillovers and optimized digital resource allocation are the intrinsic reasons for promoting enterprise digital transformation through global value chain embedding.Further analysis reveals that the improvement of enterprise technologi-cal capabilities can strengthen the promoting effect of global value chain embedding on enterprise digital trans-formation,while managerial shortsightedness may weaken the impact of global value chain embedding.Global value chain embedding is more effective in promoting the digital transformation of technology-intensive enterpri-ses,state-owned enterprises,and enterprises with lower value chain positions.Therefore,enterprises should integrate into the global value chain,fully leverage the positive effects of global value chain embedding,and continuously promote digital transformation.
