Does Transport Infrastructure Investment Promote Rural Industrial Integration?Evidence from China Land Market
Transport infrastructure investment is a key factor in driving economic growth and fostering re-gional economic development.Transportation infrastructure investment has a poverty reduction effect and pro-motes agricultural development.However,the influence on the comprehensive development of rural industries is less explored.By collating land supply information on transportation land published by the China Land Mar-ket website from 2010 to 2019,we construct transportation infrastructure investment strength indicators.We also use county-level economic data from the same period to construct rural industrial integration indicators,ai-ming to empirically test the impact of transportation infrastructure investment on the level of rural industrial in-tegration and its mechanism of action.The results show that an increase in transportation infrastructure invest-ment in each county significantly improves the local level of rural industrial integration.This effect varies ac-cording to economic and geographic location,agricultural function positioning,and transportation capacity po-sitioning.Notably,transportation infrastructure investment has a significant role in promoting rural industrial integration in the central and western regions,the main grain-producing areas,and the pilot regions of trans-portation power.Further mechanism analysis suggests that investment in transportation infrastructure can en-hance rural industrial integration by improving inter-regional transportation capacity,promoting industrial ag-glomeration,and stimulating innovation vitality.
