The Effects of Robots on Worker Health
High-quality employment and people's health are important symbols of national prosperity and national strength.Using the 2010-2018 China Family Tracking Survey(CFPS)individual data and the Inter-national Federation of Robotics(IFR)industrial robot data,we analyze the impact of robot application on the health of China's workforce. The results show that robot application significantly improves labor force health, and in terms of employment skill structure, the impact mainly comes from low-skilled labor force,i.e.,robot application significantly improves the health of low-skilled labor force.Mechanism analysis found that robot ap-plication affects labor force health level through labor force reallocation, income effect, and working time re-duction.Heterogeneity analysis found that the health-promoting effect of robotics applications on low-skilled la-bor is mainly concentrated in women, those over 35 years of age,and the labor force in low-risk industries. Therefore,in the face of the current rapid development of digital technology,it is necessary to seize the new power of the digital technology engine represented by robots and artificial intelligence,to promote the realiza-tion of job transformation by workers,to improve the employment support system for key groups, and to give full play to the promotional role of robot applications in guaranteeing gender equality in employment and the health of the workforce.
