Can Digital Economy Alleviate the Tight Labor Supply in China?
Using data from the 2018 China Labor Force Dynamics Survey and matched data from 151 cities,the impact of the digital economy on the labor supply of China's working-age population is examined.It is found that the digital economy can effectively alleviate labor supply tension in China,and the improvement of workers'digital literacy is an important reason for the digital economy to alleviate labor supply tension.In addition,the heterogeneity analysis further finds that the digital economy has a greater mitigating effect on the labor supply tension of women,the"new generation",the"high-skilled"and the rural labor force.Accordingly,it is important to incorporate the development of the digital economy into the policy design of labor potential stimulation,strengthen the construction of digital infrastructure,and implement differentiated digital employment strategies.
