Can Labor Market Integration Promote Export Technology Upgrading?——An Empirical Test Based on the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region
Promoting the labor market integration is an important part of the construction of a unified national market, which is of great significance for boosting the domestic economy and the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry.Based on theoretical analysis, this paper empirically examines how labor market integration affects export technology upgrading using the sample of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region. The research results show that the labor market integration in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region has significantly promoted the export technology upgrading.Ownership and regional labor market integration have a strong promoting effect on export technology upgrading, while industry and urban-rural labor market integration have insufficient promoting effect on export technology upgrading.Heterogeneous labor has a differentiated impact on the positive effects of labor market integration. In regions with a relatively high proportion of lower skilled labor, the labor market integration has a stronger driving effect on the export technology upgrading. The mechanism test shows that demand driven effects, technological innovation effects, and efficiency improvement effects are the three Critical paths for labor market integration to drive export technology upgrading. Therefore,we should continue to deepen the process of labor market integration, break down institutional barriers that hinder the positive effects of labor market integration, promote the manufacturing industry in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region to forge ahead the high-end of the value chain.
