The Impact of Digital Economy Development on Farm Households'Land Transfer:Evidence from CHARLS
Based on the micro-survey data from the CHARLS 2015 and 2018,the impact of digital economic development on farm households'land transfer is empirically examined on the basis of theoretical analysis. The result finds that digital economy development can significantly promote the transfer of agricultural land, and the conclusions are robust to a certain extent. The heterogeneity analysis finds that the positive impact of digital economy development on the transfer of agricultural land is more pronounced in households where the head of the household receives mandatory education, has a medium scale of agricultural land, and is geographically located in the central and eastern regions. The analysis of the mechanism shows that digital economy development can mitigate the problem of"landlessness and unemployment coexisting"by increasing non-farm employment, and reduce the transaction costs in the agricultural land transfer market by promoting farmers'active participation in the confirmation of agricultural land rights, thus influencing the transfer of agricultural land. Therefore,it is important to invest heavily in new infrastructure such as the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence, and to vigorously develop the digital economy, with a particular focus on supporting the central and western region, penetrating into rural areas, and training farmers,so that the digital economy can provide a boost to the next stage of agricultural land transfer.
