Public Education Expenditure,Industrial Structure Upgrading and Urban-Rural Income Gap Convergence
Based on the panel data of 31 provinces in China from 2010 to 2022,this paper links public education expenditure,industrial structure upgrading and urban-rural income gap,empirically analyzes the influence effect,transmission path and regional heterogeneity of public education expenditure on urban-rural income gap in China,and tests the intermediary effect and threshold effect of industrial structure upgrading in this path.The results show that:Firstly,public education expenditure has a significant role in narrowing the income gap between urban and rural areas,and has a spatial spillover effect in promoting the narrowing of the urban-rural gap in other regions.Secondly,the impact of public education expenditure on urban-rural in-come gap has regional heterogeneity,its role in narrowing the urban-rural income gap in the central and western regions is greater than that in the eastern region.Thirdly,the narrowing effect of public education expenditure on urban-rural income gap has non-linear threshold char-acteristics,and industrial structure upgrading plays an important intermediary role in this influ-ence path.The conclusion of this paper provides policy enlightenment for further optimizing the structure of public education expenditure and narrowing the urban-rural income gap.
