Research on Facade Decoration of Wudaoying Hutong from the Perspective of Interface
In the context of consumerism and the internet,this paper aims to explore the impact of digital media and public commentary on the appearance and changing process of the built environment.Invited INTERFACE concept from media theory,starting from online commentary and image scene,the study dissected the Facade Decoration of Wudaoying Hutong by literature survey,word frequency analysis,and iconography.In place of conclusion,the constructing process of the facade in Wudaoying Hutong is experiencing a transition,where the façade decoration is acting as a user interface.In the process,as hardware devices,the facade decoration is a complex interface mingling the Authentic,the Hyper,and the Virtual in the built environment through the prototype of Screen and Hyperlink.While as software devices,the facade decoration is the conspiring result of creative groups,local businesses,and government departments,on the other hand,is the consequence deconstructed by Tourists Gaze repeatedly.It is found that the unique cultural experience of the street is not formed from a top-down overall planning mechanism but benefits from a bottom-up,distributed"emergence"force,which is still being iterated.This generating system of Wudaying scenescapes might be a possibility for urban renewal strategy.
