Research on the Construction of Mat-Dwelling Lifestyle Design Genealogy and Design Strategies
The Mat-Dwelling Lifestyle is characterized by hierarchy and diversity, significantly influencing people's living patterns and furniture design. This research conducts an in-depth analysis of the Mat-Dwelling Lifestyle from cultural studies and design perspectives. Using the cultural quadrants model, the Mat-Dwelling Lifestyle is examined across four aspects:material culture, behavioral culture, institutional culture, and spiritual culture. Scattered phenomena related to the Mat-Dwelling Lifestyle found in texts and images are organized and traced. Building on the theory of cultural genes, the constituent elements of Mat-Dwelling cultural genes are structured, forming a genealogical chart. Moreover, the Mat-Dwelling cultural genes are translated into design genes from a design standpoint. Inviting experts to evaluate and assign weight to factors, the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is employed to rank the value of both Mat-Dwelling cultural genes and design genes. Ultimately, innovative design strategies are proposed to reconstruct cultural genes, resulting in the development of study room furniture design proposals aligned with these strategies.
