Material Selection:The Identity,Characteristics,and Causes of Ancient Paper
This study examines the identity,usage characteristics,and causes of ancient paper in China from the perspective of"paper usage,"providing a historical viewpoint for the contemporary transformation of traditional materials and the innovative design and application of paper products.By systematically reviewing and categorizing historical records related to papermaking and paper usage,the study explores the identity and characteristics of ancient paper and analyzes the causes based on the material properties of paper.It finds that ancient paper primarily emerged as a substitute in its developmental history,displaying open and inclusive usage characteristics.The causes are attributed to the natural and social properties of paper,which shaped the substitute identity and open,inclusive application features of ancient paper.This research outlines the traditional paper culture of ancient China.
