Research on the Era Characteristics and Cultural Connotation of Furniture in"Dream of the Red Chamber"
The classic Chinese novel Dream of the Red Chamber illustrates the lives of the feudal aristocracy during the mid-to late-Qing Dynasty.Cao Xueqin's depiction of furniture in the Jia mansion helps us to understand the social background and era characteristics of different types of Qing-style furniture,thus allowing for a deeper comprehension of the traditional culture embedded within it and enabling us to apply its essence to modern use.By analyzing the typical furniture described in the novel,the study examines the material selection,craftsmanship,functional types,and decorative characteristics of aristocratic household furniture at the time,revealing the artistic value and cultural connotation reflected in Qing-style aristocratic furniture.With the emergence of new technologies and materials,it has become possible for Qing-style aristocratic furniture to enter modern homes,representing the inheritance of excellent traditional Chinese culture.The study proposes several reflections on integrating outstanding Qing-style traditional elements into modem home design.
