The Extraction and Application of the Cultural Genes of Traditional Woodcraft of the Ewenki Reindeer Tribe
The Ewenki Reindeer Tribe once thrived alongside mountains and rivers,as part of the Ewenki ethnic group, making a living through hunting and reindeer herding. The unique environment and production methods led to the development of a distinctive traditional woodcraft culture reliant on abundant forest resources. However, with shifts in living environments and production modes, this time-honored ethnic craft has encountered developmental challenges.By introducing cultural gene theory, this study analyzes and extracts the cultural genes of the Ewenki Reindeer Tribe's traditional woodcraft, based on an examination of its developmental history and typology. Finally,it explores innovative applications by integrating explicit cultural genes, such as form, pattern, and color, with implicit ones, such as ecology, aesthetics, and customs, into design practice. The extraction and application of cultural genes from the Ewenki Reindeer Tribe's traditional woodcraft offer pathways for extending the heritage of ethnic traditional culture and provide new insights for contemporary ethnic-inspired design.
