A Study on the Spatial Openness of Traditional Cluster-type Dwelling in Wuzhou Based on Spaee Syntax
The spatial form of traditional vernacular dwellings embodies rich construction concepts, and interpreting the wisdom of traditional habitation offers valuable insights into the renewal and preservation of such dwellings. This study takes seven typical cluster-type traditional dwellings in the Wuzhou region as research subjects. From the perspective of spatial openness,it utilizes spatial relationship diagrams generated through two segmentation methods,"convex space"and"isovist,"in space syntax tools. The spatial openness of these dwellings is analyzed using four variable indicators:depth value, connectivity, integration, and choice. This study interprets both the appearance and essence of the spatial openness of traditional cluster-type dwellings in Wuzhou. The research reveals that all seven groups of dwellings with four different combination types exhibit high levels of openness, with openness characteristics reflected in four aspects:spatial vision, streamline, combination, and function,as well as three dimensions:perception, behavior, and thought. The exploration of openness is intended to inspire multidimensional thinking on the renewal and protection of traditional dwellings, ultimately restoring their spatial forms and cultural connotations to the greatest extent possible.
