A Brief Analysis of Aesthetic Imagery of Screens in the Song Dynasty under the Influence of Scholar Culture
Scholar culture played a key role in promoting the development of screen furniture during the Song Dynasty,with the aesthetic concepts derived from it regarded as exemplars of Chinese furniture aesthetics.As a distinctive category within ancient furniture,screen furniture encompasses both functional and decorative attributes,while also embodying the spiritual values and emotional attachments of the scholars.Current research on screen furniture primarily focuses on historical culture and image analysis.This paper,based on prior studies,explores the influence of Song Dynasty scholar aesthetics on the concept of screen furniture,from macro-level cultural influences to micro-level design transformations.By analyzing the functional and aesthetic values of screens,as well as comparing the styles across different social classes and the artistic characteristics of screen furniture from the Tang,Song,and Ming dynasties,this study comprehensively outlines the integration of scholar aesthetics into screen furniture during the Song Dynasty.It highlights the artistic qualities of elegance and grace,natural simplicity,subtle yet refined construction,and transcendent charm,providing inspiration for the design of contemporary Song-style screen furniture.
