A Study on the Design and Functions of Incense Tables:Characteristics During the Yongzheng Period
The incense table,a traditional Chinese furniture piece,originated in the late Tang Dynasty,with its form and structure beginning to take shape during the Five Dynasties period.From the Song to the Ming Dynasties,the design matured,further evolving during the Qing Dynasty into a multifunctional piece.Its tall and elegant appearance imbued it with a refined scholarly aura.This paper examines the development of the incense table's design and functionality using historical documents,paintings,and extant objects.Through analysis of Qing imperial archives,this study compiles data on the quantity,structure,and adornments of incense tables during the Yongzheng period.The findings highlight that incense tables from this era are fine examples of Ming-style furniture.
