NSTA New Standards for Science Teacher Preparation in the United States:Contents,Characteristics and Enlightenment
High-quality science education needs high-quality professional science teachers.The latest edi-tion of"NSTA Standards for Science Teacher Preparation"in the United States sets professional standards for sci-ence teacher preparation in six aspects:content knowledge,content pedagogy,learning environments,safety,im-pacts on student learning,professional knowledge and skills.Its overall framework and contents are characterized by the conceptualization of content knowledge,the emphasis on culture-related pedagogy from the perspective of social justice,and the understanding and mastery of the nature of science.This standard provides training and evaluation guidelines for science education institutions,helps science teachers to carry out self-evaluation and cer-tification,provides guidance for science teacher educators and serves decision makers.However,it lacks relevant requirements for science teachers in the aspects of teachers'beliefs,codes of conduct and teacher ethics.There-fore,the training of science teachers in China should be carried out in the following three aspects:to develop the training standard of science teachers which is suitable for the development of science education in China;to pro-mote science teachers'inquiry teaching based on the nature of science;to pay attention to the cultivation of inter-disciplinary teaching quality of science teachers.
