Guided by the notion of"fostering virtue through education",this study explores the construction of college English teachers'pragmatic identity in teaching.By selecting two teachers who have excelled in the im-plementation of"fostering virtue through education"as research subjects,the study collected data through the re-cording and observation of their classes,and conducted qualitative analysis based on the theory of"pragmatic identity".It is found that,under the requirement of"fostering virtue through education",college English teachers construct multiple pragmatic identities by flexibly employing different discourse strategies,including knowledge transmitter,culture disseminator,values guider,and critical thinking cultivator.This identity construction not only helps improve the quality of teaching,but also effectively promotes the all-round development of students.
