Climate Change and Ethics Writing:A Research into the Individual Ethics in Solar
Ian McEwan's Solar is regarded as one of the representatives of contemporary climate fiction in the West. When analyzed from the perspective of individual ethics,it could be told that by using the present continuous tense, instead of the future narratives, the author traces the protagonist's ethical identity, ethical conflict and ethical choice.Meanwhile,he displays the ethical dilemma brought forward by climate change. This paper argues that the author ex-presses a strong sense of individual ethics when discussing climate change related issues,pres-enting the influence of climate change on the individual, society and the ecosystem from a dee-per perspective. The narrative approach closely intertwines climate change with individual eth-ics,thereby eliciting the ethical choices made by individuals in the context of climate change.Accordingly, the ethical choice can be regarded as a textual metaphor for Earth's ecology and climate related issues, revealing the ethical implications embedded within climate change in a more profound and direct manner.
