Discussion on the role of autophagy in Hashimoto's thyroiditis based on the theory of"qi retention and stagnation due to spleen deficiency"
Hashimoto's thyroiditis(HT)in traditional Chinese medicine is rooted in the deficiency of spleen qi,with stagnant qi,fire, and phlegm as its manifestations, showing a dynamic pathogenesis characteristics of qi stagnation due to spleen deficiency and higher level of spleen deficiency due to qi stagnation, which can be summarized by Academician Wang Yongyan's theory of"qi retention and stagnation due to spleen deficiency".From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, autophagy is a microscopic manifestation of qi transformation, which has the function of removing pathogenic factors and maintaining homeostasis.Insufficient autophagy can lead to the inability to remove damaged organelles and other wastes, resulting in their abnormal accumulation, which can be regarded as a microscopic manifestation of the pathogenesis of Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Therefore, based on the theory of"qi retention and stagnation due to spleen deficiency",this paper discusses the correlation between Hashimoto's thyroiditis and autophagy, and establishes the treatment method of"tonifying spleen deficiency and resolving qi stagnation",taking regulating the autophagy function of thyroid follicular epithelial cells as the therapeutic target,so as to provide new ideas for the prevention and treatment of HT lesions in traditional Chinese medicine.
