This paper summarizes the clinical experience of Wang Lie in his treatment of children with Tourette's syndrome(TS)by stages based on the theory of"balancing to relieve tic disorders".Accordingly,it is innovatively proposed that TS be differentiated and treated as an"involuntariness syndrome",which can be clinically divided into an attack period,a remission period and a stable period.In the attack period,the key pathogenesis of the disease is qi depression transforming into fire,which induces the liver wind stirring up internally and should be treated with modified Wangwei Powder to calm the liver and clear liver-fire,to calm endogenous wind and stop the unaware movements.In the remission period,its key pathogenesis is the disharmony of liver and spleen,and the obstruction of orifices by phlegm and dampness,which should be treated with modified Annao Decoction to soften the liver and astringe yin,to dissipate phlegm and refresh the mind.In the stable period,its key pathogenesis is the deficiency of spleen and kidney,and internal stirring of deficient wind,which should be treated with modified Gushen Decoction to benefit qi and nourish the kidney,consolidate the body resistance and prevent unaware movements.In clinic,these experiential effective recipes should be modified according to specific symptoms to achieve better therapeutic effects.
