Professor Zhou Zhongying's clinical experience in the differentiation and treatment of ascites due to liver cirrhosis
This paper summarizes Professor Zhou Zhongying's academic experience in the differentiation and treatment of ascites due to liver cirrhosis.Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the disease is characterized by syndromes of deficiency in its root cause while excess in its manifestations, intermingled deficiency and excess, healthy qi deficiency and pathogen excessiveness, while its basic pathogenesis lies in the dysfunction of liver in conveyance and dispersion, dysfunction of spleen in transportation, and dysfunction of kidney in qi transformation, resulting in the congestion of qi,blood, and water, ultimately leading to swelling.By analyzing the relevant medical records of Professor Zhou Zhongying's treatment of ascites due to liver cirrhosis,it is found that multiple pathological factors such as dampness, heat, depression,qi stagnation, blood stasis, and water retention are intermingled and dynamically evolve with vital qi deficiency syndromes such as yin deficiency of liver and kidney, yang deficiency of spleen and kidney, forming a compound pathogenesis. In view of this compound pathogenesis,Professor Zhou Zhongying emphasizes its differentiation and treatment, flexibly using multiple methods such as promoting diuresis and fecal excretion, regulating qi-flowing and relieving depression, removing heat and dampness, resolving blood stasis and unblocking collaterals, and consolidating vital qi and tonifying deficiency. He drafts prescriptions based on the multiple treatment methods, adjusts medicine compatibilities according to specific symptoms, achieving a significant clinical efficacy. Two experimental cases are attached to the analysis in this paper.
