A case of refractory constipation treatment based on the differentiation of state and target
Refractory constipation is currently the most severe form, and there are yet no effective drugs for its treatment. In traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),it is believed that constipation can be divided into deficient constipation and excessive constipation, with the former caused by pathogenic factors obstructing the gastrointestinal tract, while the latter by malnourished intestines and their weak peristalsis.Accordingly, its treatment requires an accurate differentiation of etiology and pathogenesis, understanding the state of the disease, regulating both its state and targets, and considering the dosage and efficacy of medications to achieve significant clinical outcomes. In this case, the patient suffers from a long-standing constipation characterized by difficult defecation, which belongs to a refractory constipation. With his advancing age and deficiency in qi,blood, yin and yang, the disease develops a deficient nature, clearly displaying the characteristics of a deficient constipation. Therefore, its treatment should focus on targeting the deficient state, deal with the targets with targeted medications, and pay attention to the dosage and effect of these medicines,so as to achieve significant clinical efficacy.
