Epidemics can be viewed as a part of the nature.This article analyzes the application of officinal magnolia bark in the ancient and modern treatment practice of epidemics by reviewing its past application in this regard and its modernization progress.It is found that its compatibility with numerous traditional Chinese medicines can always achieve a remarkable effect,and it also has a dual effect of enhancing the drugs efficacy and reducing their side effects in medical prescriptions.Its extracts,magnolol and honokiol,have a great clinical prospect and great application value for epidemics prevention and treatment owing to their anti-inflammatory,liver-protecting,and anti-fibrosis effects.
