Theoretical analysis of the treatment of insomnia with acupuncture for sedation and tranquilization based on the perspective of psychosomatic medicine
Psychosomatic medicine is a discipline that studies human health and diseases from both physiological and psychological aspects. It mainly highlights the interaction between psychological factors and the body,a concept that is consistent with the holism in Chinese medicine.Insomnia is a common psychosomatic disease, mainly manifested as frequent difficulty in falling asleep, short sleep time. The disease is located in the heart and brain, both of which are the places where spirit is stored. Therefore, its treatment should focus on regulating the spirit.Acupuncture for sedation and tranquilization is an acupuncture protocol proposed by Professor Wang Fuchun on the basis of the holism theory of traditional Chinese medicine and in combination with modern medical models, which focuses on regulating the spirit while alleviating the insomnia symptoms of patients to improve its clinical efficacy in a way that the spirit and the body are co-regulated.This paper intends to clarify the etiology and pathogenesis of the disease through the combination of Chinese medicine and psychosomatic medicine,to analyze the theoretical basis for the selection of acupuncture points, the needling manipulations and the therapeutic timing of the unique acupuncture therapy from the perspective of regulating the spirit. At the same time, the holistic treatment idea of insomnia is explored so as to provide some insights into the clinical treatment of the disease with acupuncture.
