Historical evolution and research progress of the classical prescription of Baihe Dihuang decoction
Baihe Dihuang decoction is listed in the Catalogue ofAncient Famous Classical Prescriptions(First Batch). This paper systematically researches the historical evolution and research status of the origin, composition and indications of this formula by sorting out ancient medical books and modern literature. It is found that Baihe Dihuang decoction was first recorded in Jingui Yaolue(Synopsis of Golden Chamber)written by Zhang Zhongjing,a famous doctor in the Han dynasty. The prescription, with fewer yet refined herbs,is mainly used to treat lily diseases, with which the indications recorded in the later medical books are basically consistent.Besides, the prescription dosage, the processing of medicinal herbs, and the method of decocting and taking all follow the original formula, with few modifications.Modern pharmacological studies have found that it has antidepressant,anti-insomnia,anti-tumor,and other effects, mainly used to treat neuropsychiatric diseases such as depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, and mental sub-health states. In short, this paper can provide a theoretical basis and literature reference for the modern development of this famous classical formula.
