Professor Wang Tan's experience in treating lung bi by employing the idea of"stratified treatment"
Professor Wang Tan,believes that the key pathogenesis of interstitial lung disease lies in deficient cold in the lung and kidney, phlegm and blood stasis obstructing the lung, which run through the entire disease course. And the course of the disease can be further divided into two stages:a severe bi syndrome due to pathogen excessiveness and a mild bi syndrome resulting from pathogens weakening. Moreover, according to its varying stages and natures, lung bi can be manifested as a syndrome of blockade of lung collaterals due to cold fluid retained in the lung,a syndrome of phlegm-heat internal accumulation owing to latent fire in spleen channels,a syndrome of blockade of lung collaterals due to the upper hyperactivity of liver yang,a syndrome of phlegm-fluid retention obstructing lung due to damp-heat in the intestines and stomach,or a syndrome of cold-stasis blocking collaterals due to a lung and kidney deficiency, and other levels of syndrome.Accordingly,a stratified therapy is adopted based on syndrome differentiation,to dispel pathogens at its onset(with a severe bi syndrome due to pathogen excessiveness)and to treat its root causes when the disease turns into a chronicle one(with a mild bi syndrome resulting from pathogens weakening). In this way,a good effect has been obtained.
