Clinical investigation into the effects of vibro-annular abdominal massage on the serum levels of gastrin and motilin in patients with insomnia
Objective To investigate the effects of vibro-annular abdominal massage on the serum gastrin and motilin levels in patients with insomnia. Methods A total of 40 insomnia patients with the syndrome of stomach qi failing to descend,as well as 20 healthy volunteers, were recruited for the study. The patients were randomly divided into a treatment group and a control group, while 20 healthy volunteers constituted the healthy group and did not receive any treatment. The observation group was treated with abdominal massage, for 30 minutes each time, once a day, while the control group was treated with Baohe pills orally, twice a day,at a dose of 9 grams per administration. Each treatment program consisted of four courses over five days. Before and after treatment,a statistical analysis was conducted on the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)and Asens Insomnia Inventory(ASI)scores,as well as the levels of gastrin and motilin in both groups, and a comparison of gastrin and motilin levels was conducted between the observation group and the healthy group. Results After treatment, all the indicators were significantly improved in the two groups compared with before treatment, and the improvement was more significant in the treatment group than that in the control group, much closer to the indicators in the healthy group(P<0.05),with a statistical significance. Conclusion Abdominal massage can significantly improve the sleep state and quality of insomnia patients, and to a certain extent increase their serum gastrin and motilin levels, which further confirms the clinical practicality of the classic theory of"gastric disorders causing restless sleep".
