This paper summarizes the experience of Professor Wang Xiaoyan in treating ulcerative colitis with the theory of"strengthening vital qi and removing blood stasis,resolving dampness and detoxifying".Professor Wang Xiaoyan believes that the basic pathogenesis of the disease features the root cause of vital qi deficiency,and the manifestations of dampness-heat,blood stasis and other pathological factors stagnating in the intestines.Stagnation of heat and blood stasis,damage to the intestinal collaterals lead to the onset of the disease,while blood stasis developing into toxicity constitutes its pathological outcome.Therefore,Wang Xiaoyan puts forward the theory of"strengthening vital qi and removing blood stasis,resolving dampness and detoxifying"as the core viewpoint of treating the disease,paying attention to staged treatment,strengthening the body first,clarifying the causes,and preventing its transmission.At the same time,he employs the method in combination with traditional Chinese medicine enema,taking into account both internal and external methods to improve its curative effect.
